Making “Into the Jungle”

After a lot of trial and error with different bindings, and determining a size that would utilize materials in such a way that I could make these as affordable as possible – both to make and to sell – I determined to stick with my original binding choice: concertina, also known as accordion binding.

I tried to document as much of the process as possible to serve as a demonstration of how I created these limited edition books.

First, the paper had to be cut down, folded, and glued together until I had a full insert for the book.

The insert was slightly smaller then 6×6 inches.

Then, the board was cut down to 6×6 inch pieces and covered with black clothe.

I eventually have a little assembly line of all the parts laid out.

The end pages were covered with pink fabric and glued to the ends of the inserts.

The completed covers and inserts are pressed and then glued together.

The ribbons were prepped: cut to size and then melted at the ends to prevent unraveling, then glued to the back covers.

The cover image was then glued onto the front cover.

The prints for the book were cut down and double sided tape was added to the back.

The photos were then organized into separate stacks, one per book.

Finally, the images were added page by page.
